We're excited to announce that we've risen in the Times Higher Education world university rankings. Following on from our climb into QS Rankings' top 1.1% of universities in the world, we're proud to have risen by one band (now ranked 351-400) to become third equal in New Zealand. Cyber Security @ Waikato

Waikato has particular strengths in cyber security – we have New Zealand's only Cyber Security Lab that partners with government and industry. Computer science staff and students run the popular New Zealand Cyber Security Challenge, held for the third time in July. Waikato is home to the New Zealand Institute for Security and Crime Science, a newly launched research institute dedicated to assisting law enforcement work and developing educational programmes.

Changing the future of cyber security

Locks, keys and alarms are everyday items people use to help with security – but what do you use in cyberspace? Waikato's research groups and educational programmes are the first of their kind in New Zealand. Associate Professor Ryan Ko leads the Cyber Security Lab and has developed the country's first master's degree in cyber security

Pasifika alumni leading the way in cyber security

Alumni of Waikato's Master of Cyber Security programme are poised to shape the future of cyber security in their homelands and beyond.

Siuta Laulaupea’alu's research has helped the University collaborate with the Tongan Government. Jeff Garae from Vanuatu will be the first Pacific student to complete a PhD in cyber security. Read about Waikato's cyber security journey.
We love hearing about our alumni and their successes! Whether it's in the boardroom or on the playing fields, our alumni continue to make a real impact in our communities. Share your stories or let us know of other alumni who are transforming the world.
